20th April 2026: Our girls are working hard, but we currently have a 6-8 day wait for new orders. Because we work alongside nature, this timeline fluctuates based on both demand and how many eggs the hens provide each day. Thanks for bearing with us!
Plymouth Rocks have a calm temperament, being generally sweet and docile. They are easy to keep in a flock as they get along with other breeds. They are friendly with people and make good pets as they are good with children. They like attention and will follow their people around.
Rocks are cold-hardy due to their early feathering. They tolerate confinement if they have enough room to roam as they prefer to free-range. They are not flighty and are a chatty but quiet breed. They are a good choice for a first-time chicken owner.
The Plymouth Rock is a dual-purpose breed and is kept both for its meat and for its cream coloured eggs, of which it lays about 200 per year.
- Rate: Approximately 4-5 eggs per week.
- Egg Size & Colour: Large, light brown eggs.
- Start Age: Typically begin laying around 18 to 20 weeks of age.
- Longevity: They are a hardy, dual-purpose breed, with egg production lasting for several years, often up to 8 years of age
May 2025: Latest fertility rate is 85% (of 100% eggs laid over a consecutive 5 day period)

I have just taken delivery of 12 Barred Plymouth Rock hatching eggs and I am absolutely delighted! They arrived brilliantly packed, beautifully clean and in superb condition. This is surely testament to the husbandry and environment under which the birds must be kept.
Many thanks to all at Home Farm, I couldn’t have asked for more. Fingers crossed now for 3 weeks time!
